I took advantage of the offer for a free copy of the 2007 issue of Fantasy & Science Fiction. I'm still reading through it but I wanted to blog about what I've read so far, and what I think.

First, as usual, the cover art is nice and the print quality is top notch. I usually pick up a copy of Analog, Asimov's, and Fantasy & Science Fiction (because I keep forgetting to subscribe) and of the three, F&SF consistently has the best feel to it.

So far, I have read:

Atalanta Loses at the Interpantheonic Trivia Bee by Heather Lindsley

Requirements for the Mythology Merit Badge by Kevin N. Haw

Envoy Extraordinary by Albert E. Cowdrey

My standards for reading are simple: did I enjoy the story? For these three stories, the answer is yes. Occasionally, I'll come across a story so good that I can't help but tell everyone I know about it. None of these stories were that good, but still worth a read.

I'm going to NASFiC next weekend, so I'll do my best to finish reading this week.

I didn't really know what NASFiC was until recently. I knew it was coming up but it took me until yesterday to find the schedule and do my omgomgomgomg routine, seeing the awesome panels planned.

Originally I was just going to go for one day and meet up with some people from Absolute Write but as long as we can get the dogs to the kennel on short notice, we'll go for the entire weekend.

Regarding "Mythology Merit Badge," I'm glad you liked the story. I had a great time writing it.

As an aside, you might want to mention in your blog that F&SF is almost ad free - 99% stories. That's very unusual in this day and age. If you have some time, also take a moment and read the classified ads on page 161. Certain magazines have a tradition of inserting a gag classified ad relating to one of the stories. I'm not saying F&SF is one of them, but you should take a peek. You might see something fun.

Thanks for reading my story,

Kevin N. Haw
